"K calling." That was the eighth time he had called in three days.
Also the eighth time she had rejected it. Yet, she kept staring at the
screen. Hoping he'd call again. The call meant he was thinking about
her. That he was desperate to talk to her. That she was right all along.
She was leading him on, into a world from there would be no return.
"Why don't u answer my calls? Kya hua?" The message tone beeped. The
messages were now sounding panic stricken. He didn't know. She hadn't told
him. He was worried. That she was going far away. That she had gone too
far. That she wont come back. He didn't know. She hadn't told him that
this is how it would play out. How could she have told him? Even she
didn't know.
"I am waiting at our place. Will keep waiting. I know you will come."
Her heart ached as she read it. Why was he doing this? Did he not
understand? Wasn't she clear enough? How could he not know that this is
the only way it can go? How could he not know that any further and she
wont be able to come back and well, that wasn't ok for her? Well, he
didn't know. She still hadn't told him.
"What happened? You didn't come. Kuch hua kya? All well?" He still didn't
get it, did he? All was not well, all would never be well again. She had
tasted ecstasy and she wanted more. What made it even better is that it
was forbidden. It was the escape from her crappy existence. It was fast
becoming his reason for existence. Could there be a thing such as
monogamous friendship. She didn't think so. He seemed to think it was ok
to not date other people, cos he was friends with her. She couldn't let
that happen. That is now how this could work. This had to end. That's
whats best for him, she assured herself.
No calls. No messages. He probably had moved on. Maybe he was
heartbroken. Well, heartbroken is a tad too dramatic. Maybe he had found
someone else. Maybe she was wrong all along. Maybe he knew. Though she
still hadn't told him. Maybe he finally understood. He was 'he' and she
was 'she'. There was no 'we', there never could be. All was well with
the world again. After all he hadnt called in 132 days. No messages
since 88 days. not that she was counting. :)
